I am Death

by Ded Bob

You seek me not; nor want me.

Yet when pain without end,

Claims a loved one,

Again you call me; you want me

I bring Peace.

For I am Death.

I come with gentle hand

To aid with all I can

To soothe the troubled brow,

Erase all cares and woes,

I banish all your foes

For I am Death.

And e'en when you fear me,

You still revere me

For as I lead thee

To Life hereafter.

You think on me

You pity me

Though I am Death.

And as I lead you

From sights that thrill you,

To lights that blind you

You smile at me,

For now you know

What I cannot

Though I am Death.

And for one small moment,

As I lead you onward

To places I cannot go

To thoughts I cannot know,

You caress my brow

With sadness now

As fearlessly

You go from me

To Renewal, to Life, You're free.

And I must watch

As you depart

For though I'd go

I cannot

For I am Death
